The shelving is a backless system comprised of wood shelves and metal tubes. The ends of the shelves attach to metal tubes, which anchor to the floor and ceiling. This type of system allows for a variety of organization in plan, complex views through the shelves, and creates the ceiling system above. The shelving organization uses the angles and lines created from the interior pathways, escalators, and building shape. This allows all the layers to combine and interlock as though nothing can be removed. Since the shelves are wood, they can be cut into different shapes. The connections allow for this as well, since the rods merely attach to the ends of the shelves. There are specific moments where the shelves run alongside a pathway to help accentuate the linearity and directionality of the path. The shelving organization is regionalized, with taller shelves creating a perimeter and boundary for a section of shorter shelves. Not only is this a convenient way to break up the merchandising sections, but it becomes another way to break up the large interior retail space. The organization of these shelves, in plan, is the same organization that makes up the reflected ceiling plan. This ceiling system is described more in the next section.
