Rule #1

Rule #1:

The building shape should be derived from the site shape using 90 degree angles.

The building shape from my prototype was derived from the site shape and road system that wrapped around it.  The basic building footprint is very similar to this site shape, but instead of angling or curving the building to fit this shape, I stepped the building with 90 degree angles along that shape.  These 90 degree angles allow for ease in structuring the building and for adjusting individual walls.  I came up with a basic building shape with stepped 90 degree angles, and began to push and pull on the walls where I wanted to create different interior/exterior spaces.  The entrance (Rule #2) follows this rule, and there is also a moment where I pull apart the retail building and garage and allow the exterior site to seep in and touch the vestibule.
