Wegmans is a grocery store that has been around since the 1920′s. It’s expansion down the east coast region has been slow, but is expanding more rapidly in the past decade. It stands out from the other grocery stores as it has a grocery section, large produce section, section for local foods, a marketplace prepared food section, and a cafe with seating. The store separates these sections not with just walls, but with walled in service spaces.
That way, all space created gets used. They dress the wall facades to look like market building facades. It adds a different element to the space.

There are also separate entrances for these different spaces.
The case study I researched in Fairfax, Virginia, has two levels and an adjacent two-level parking garage. This parking garage is designed to let light down to the bottom level on all sides, and as one approaches the building, they are funnelled up by vertical circulation means to the main entrance on the ground level.
